A Poetical Flight

I had a sudden inspiration for a poem. Of course, this inspiration hit at 12am, when there were no pens or paper to be had. I still managed to write it down(with a marker, on the back of a receipt). But it's still a noteworthy (ha!) poem.
So... here goes. I leave judgment to my worthy reader(s?).

I let my heart wander,
Careless and free.
But when I looked for it,
It had gone from me.

I let my heart fly!
'Pon the wings of the dawn.
And when I searched for it,
It was already gone.

I found my heart resting,
On the brow of a friend.
And I asked of myself,
"Can this pain ever end?"

'Twill be broken in twain,
Whether I keep, or let go.
Should have guarded it better.
This truth I now know.

Rough, but what do you think?
